Two very different services. Two very different experiences. Here is an honest guide to help you choose — based on your budget, your location, and how involved you want to be.

This is the question I get asked more than any other. Someone reaches out, tells me about their space, and then asks: "Do I need full interior design, or would Decorating & Styling be enough?" It is a good question — and the honest answer is that it depends entirely on your project, not on the size of your budget.

I offer both services because they solve different problems. One is not a lesser version of the other. They are genuinely different experiences, designed for different situations. Let me walk you through both so you can decide which one makes sense for you.

What is Decorating & Styling?

Decorating & Styling is our online service. It is designed for people who want professional guidance on the look and feel of their space — but who do not need structural changes, technical drawings, or on-site project management. You might be refreshing a room, furnishing a new home, or just wanting someone to pull everything together into a cohesive vision.

The entire process happens remotely. We start with a video call and a detailed questionnaire about your space, your lifestyle, and what you are hoping to achieve. From there, I create a complete design concept: a mood board, a furniture and materials plan, a layout, and a detailed shopping list with links to every item. You receive everything in a polished digital document that you can follow at your own pace.

This service works well if your space is structurally fine but visually disconnected. Maybe the bones are good — the layout works, the light is nice — but the furniture does not feel right, the colours are not cohesive, or the room just lacks personality. Decorating & Styling gives you the roadmap to fix all of that, without needing anyone to come to your home.

D&S
Decorating & Styling at a glance
Available Australia-wide. Starts from $500 per room. Delivered online. 4 phases: Discovery, Brief, Concept, Development. You handle the purchasing and implementation yourself, with our detailed guidance. Best for: refreshing a room, furnishing a new space, creating visual cohesion.

"Decorating & Styling is not a lesser service. It is a different tool — designed for a different kind of project."

What is Full Interior Design?

Full Interior Design is our on-site service. It is for projects that go beyond surface-level changes — where you need technical documentation, builder coordination, or hands-on project management. This might be a renovation, a new build, or a room that requires significant spatial reconfiguration.

We offer two levels. Full Service Specification includes everything up to and including technical drawings and builder-ready documentation — floor plans, elevations, materials schedules, and lighting layouts. You or your builder take it from there. Full Service Turnkey goes further: we manage the entire process from concept through to completion, including procurement, supplier coordination, installation, and final styling. You hand us the keys and come back to a finished space.

This service starts with an in-home consultation where I see the space in person, take measurements, and get a real sense of how light, proportion, and flow work in your home. That visit changes everything — there are things you simply cannot assess from a photograph.

F.S.
Full Service at a glance
Available in Sydney and NSW. Specification starts from $1,400 per room. Turnkey starts from $2,400 per room. 5-6 phases including Technical and Delivery. We handle documentation, procurement, and optionally installation. Best for: renovations, new builds, structural changes, complex multi-room projects.

Full Service projects involve on-site visits, detailed measurements, and technical documentation that Decorating & Styling does not require.

How to decide

The decision usually comes down to three things: location, scope, and involvement.

If you are outside Sydney, Decorating & Styling is likely your best option — it is available Australia-wide and works entirely online. If you are in Sydney but your project does not involve structural changes, Decorating & Styling may still be all you need. The question is not "how much do I want to spend?" but "what does the project actually require?"

Think about it this way. If you walked into your room right now and the layout made sense, the walls were fine, and the proportions felt right — but the furniture, colours, and styling were all wrong — that is a Decorating & Styling project. If you walked in and thought "this wall needs to move" or "this kitchen needs to be completely gutted" or "I need a builder" — that is Full Service.

"The question is not how much you want to spend. The question is what does the project actually need?"

Can I start with one and upgrade later?

Yes — and this happens more often than you might think. Some clients start with Decorating & Styling for one room, love the experience, and then come back for Full Service when they are ready to tackle a bigger project. Others start with a Decorating & Styling consultation and realise during the process that their space actually needs structural work — in which case we can transition to Full Service seamlessly.

There is no wrong entry point. The discovery call exists precisely for this: to help you figure out which service makes the most sense before you commit to anything. It is free, it is thirty minutes, and there is genuinely no obligation.

The honest truth

I could make more money if I pushed every client towards Full Service. But that is not how I work. If Decorating & Styling will solve your problem, I will tell you. If you need Full Service, I will tell you that too. The worst outcome for everyone is choosing the wrong service — it wastes your money and my time.

The best projects I have worked on are the ones where the service matched the need. A young family in Brisbane who just needed their living room to feel cohesive — Decorating & Styling, delivered online, and they did the rest themselves. A couple in Manly who were gutting their entire ground floor — Full Service Turnkey, because there was no way they could manage that alone while working full time and raising two kids.

Both projects were equally satisfying. Both clients were equally happy. The service was different, but the care was exactly the same.

If you are still unsure, book a discovery call. That is what it is for.
